Catherine Ford was raised in Bloomsbury by her mother and grandmother. When she was a infant, Ford struggled with obsessive/compulsive disorders and anxiety caused by the word association. Ford was attracted to acting in her teens, she joined the National Youth Theatre. Ford gained entry to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but after just a few days, decided that she was a poor for the school. Ford rather applied to the Central School of Speech and Drama which she was eventually able to get the position on her 4th attempt. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's classmates. He went on to get frequent roles on the show as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford received her degree in 1993. But, before then, Ford made a television debut on Surgical Spirit in an episode in the year 1991. Ford took the professional title of Catherine Tate. Tate was featured in a variety of television programs including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly as well as London's Burning during the Nineties. Tate was a regular performer on stage, and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company's season 2000-2001. Tate's stand-up humor, which she began adding to her repertoire in 1996, soon gained her admiration.
